Austin, TX will once again be at the cutting edge of the green movement when it hosts the first SXSW Eco “Sustainability Goes Viral” short film contest on October 7th.
“Sustainability Goes Viral” looks to attract the most entertaining, fun, informative, and must-see videos – you know, the ones you send to your friends – addressing the topic of sustainability. Videos can be dramatic, comedic, mockumentary, or documentary – but they must be 5 minutes or less in length and they must have been produced after January 1, 2012.
PGA Green’s own Rachael Joy (TV shows “It’s Easy Being Green”, “Joined For Life”) will be one of the judges of the competition and says she’s excited to see what people come up with.
“At PGA Green and GreenProductionGuide.com we help producers and filmmakers go green behind the scenes but we also love it when the green is on the screen! Great storytelling and compelling content is truly the key to educate people about the environment. I’m really looking forward to seeing sustainability go viral!,” she says.
There are two prizes up for grabs in the competition. The Most Viral Prize will go to the video racking up the most overall views in the competition.
The jury will pick the overall winner and the Grand Jury Prize is a meeting with PGA Green co-founder Lydia Dean Pilcher (features “Amelia”, “The Namesake”, “The Darjeeling Limited”), either in person in New York or L.A. or via Skype (how’s that for eco?).
Pilcher acknowledges the power of filmmaking by saying, “as content creators, we are culture changers – this is a great opportunity to make a difference in awareness about the global climate change crisis.”
